construction begins above ground

July 18, 2022 - This week at Little Peaks, construction begins above ground! With our cement foundation poured, insulated, and finished, we are moving above ground to begin working on the main framing of the center. Basement supports are going in today, and floor framing starts tomorrow on site. By the end of the week, we’ll be able to walk on our floors (okay, the subfloors - but it’s still exciting).

Other details are falling into place too - our electrical is in, and the backfill process will be completed this week by our excavators. Meanwhile, across the lake, our walls are being framed by Northern Frameworks. The walls will take the ferry over the lake and be lifted into place in just a few weeks.

This weekend, we’re looking forward to welcoming friends and families to the Keene Valley Library on Sunday after the Farmer’s Market to share project updates and play. Children will gather in the reading room for stories and playtime, while prospective volunteers, teachers, trustees, and parents will hear construction updates and offer feedback on center operations. I am interested in eliciting community perspectives on programming, playgrounds, tuition, enrollment and timelines. We are looking forward to a community dialogue with all of our stakeholders. Please join us at 1:30 on Sunday, July 24 from 1:00-2:30 PM at the Keene Valley Library; children are welcomed and encouraged.

I will share information from our community info session and distribute slides in next week’s construction update.

Thanks for following along, Reid Jewett Smith, Ph.D.
